I have heard, unconfirmed, rumour’s that Glitter Frogs frontman Richard Fondue is working on a new EP. Very little information is available right now, but he was seen last night getting drunk with journalist Viv Plezwizm in the Groucho Club. After his 13th Kaliber he began to hint that he was ready to start recording. The next day he admitted that had he known Kaliber was non-alcoholic he probably wouldn’t have got so drunk.
Right OK then! RCL is about to issue it’s May edition. In five months I have managed to include a total of three new stories and one chapter from the novel. Only issue 1 was cheekily held up by a very short, and unlikely to be included in the final book, prologue. More importantly than that I am slowly starting to get a feel for how I want the project to develop.
RCL is kind of like an art-project forum. The business and management end of art. Sounds exciting huh! RCL itself is not really the art… although it can become so as time goes on. At the moment it is a platform for me to stay in touch with you all and let you know what projects I have going on. It’s here where the annoying Libran control-freak, organiser-against-wills part of me comes out. I want to try and get you guys to start announcing your own ideas.
Oh yes I know you don’t want to… but you do really.
- Gene’s just bought a new amp.
- Laurie’s started guitar lessons (granted he knows more guitar than his teacher but still).
- Kester has a photographic exhibition in August.
- Seru want’s to enter ‘Last Light‘ into a feature competition at the NFTS.
First off let me say that I do generally have more ‘free’ time than the rest of you guys, so I know it’s not as easy for you to achieve what, at the moment, may seem extra-curricula activities. However it’s only through forcing myself to keep writing through the busy periods that I have started to succeed in finishing projects. The other thing I get out of RCL (and again I realise everyone is different) is the fact that having made it open knowledge that I intend to complete something forces me to get it done in order to save face.
It is of course completely your choice to get involved or not, but I think if we all start encouraging each other on our various projects we all have the potential to produce some outstanding work.
Seru and Kester can already post contributions to this website because they already have wordpress blogs. Gene and Laurie would need to sign up themselves before I can invite them [easily done at www.wordpress.com]. Doesn’t matter whether you want to use your own blog or not it just allows me to include you as contributers here.
Anyway have a think about it. Be nice for us to start appraising each others work again… just like old times huh!

Whirl was rejected by the ‘Way Of The Wizard’ anthology. It’s currently undergoing a rewrite before heading off for another relevant anthology.

I’m excited to announce that the story ‘Song And Emotion’ has been short-listed for inclusion in the anthology Music For Another World.

Readings
- A Reasonable Gathering Of Failings by Kai Savage
- Can I Help You Madam? by Kester Savage
- Children Of Alphamerion – Chapter One by Kai Savage
The first two readings are again from 300-500 The Random Ramblings. The essays took many forms from diary, to simple story, to semi-factual. The two I have chosen to include here show very different ways to play with the form.
The Children Of Alphamerion, chapter one. It’s a little too wordy and adult in its sentence structure (I could do with feedback so let me know what you think). For now it will do though. I am taking the same approach I’ve been applying to screenwriting, just keep writing until it’s finished and then start the corrections. I have a fairly detailed plan for the first half of the book, so expect more from here in the future.
Next month is Kester’s birthday month so by now it shouldn’t be any surprise that we will be taking a trip to 1985.

Three editions in and we at RCL thought it was time to add a website alongside your listening delights.
The project is slowly taking shape, but there are many more ideas in the pipeline. The hope is that this will become a forum to promoting creativity. Each edition of RCL already brings you music and stories and, in the future, will include listener submitted writing and music. The website will also be instrumental in expanding on the form by allowing the addition of photography, film and many other artistic endeavours.
Most importantly though RCL hopes that you will use this forum to tell us all about the projects you are working on, ask advice or give tips and generally communicate your desire to increase your artistic output.
Here’s to a fruitful 2010 and beyond.
